Dietary Sunscreen Accredited Course
Did you know that topical sunscreen only lowers the risk of Malignant Melanoma by 50% and non-Melanoma skin cancers by 40%? If sunscreen is only half the solution, what is the other half? The answer: diet. Dietary phytochemicals such as lycopene, curcumin and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) have been scientifically proven to protect skin from damage by UV rays, thus helping to prevent skin ageing and cancers.
In this course we will cover the main ways that the sun damages the skin and the biomechanics of skin ageing. We then look at skin cancer, the role UV rays play and the science behind sun protection. Finally, we discuss the dietary patterns that help to prevent UV damage, including a detailed study of key phytochemicals found in foods which have been scientifically demonstrated to protect the skin.
