Self Defence In-Person Course
This comprehensive introduction to self defence will cover a range of different scenarios that could be encountered in an outdoor or domestic setting. We will cover strategies for defending yourself against situations including wrist grabs, clothing grabs, strangleholds and hair grabs, as well as attacks from behind, against a wall and on the floor. We will also cover principles of de-escalation, boundary setting and self-empowerment to avoid encountering threatening situations.
Moves will be modelled and practised in a safe environment, with participants mainly working in pairs and repeatedly switching roles of attacker and defender. Safety equipment will be provided where needed. Boundary setting is a fundamental part of the course, so if at any time a participant wants to sit out a particular move or modify it for any reason, they are always free to do so.
This course runs over 5 consecutive weeks. You will also receive video content showing how to practise the moves learnt at home, so whilst I do suggest attending every week, you will be able to catch up if you miss a week. All participants will receive workbooks for optional activities around increasing empowerment and lifetime access to the demonstration videos.
This course is suitable for all ages 18+ and levels of physical fitness. Adjustments can be made to accommodate physical and sensory disabilities but please get in touch if you have questions about the course suitability. The principles of the course will be based on defending yourself against a physically stronger attacker and the moves taught are selected for their ability to be performed by anyone, even when wearing a dress and heels. Therefore, the course may particularly appeal to women, but men are equally welcome to attend.
